School Calendar for School Year 2018–2019

1. The School Year (SY) 2018-2019 shall formally open on Monday, June 4, 2018 and shall end on Friday, April 5, 2019. It shall consist of 208 school days inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training and the three days for the Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) conducted within the school year. However, learners are expected to be in school for a total of 200 class days as shown in Enclosure No. 2. 

2. Private schools may deviate from this School Calendar. However, they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August, as provided in Republic Act (RA) No. 7797, entitled An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. Said schools should notify in advance their respective regional offices (ROs) regarding any deviation from the school calendar.

3. The Implementing Guidelines on the SY 2018-2019 Calendar of Activities are provided in Enclosure No. 1 to enable the schools to effectively and efficiently implement the school events and activities. Likewise, the guidelines shall allow the ROs and the schools division offices to provide support to schools, particularly in the areas of instruction, and progress monitoring and evaluation.

4. Schools may observe national and local celebrations/activities and holidays other than those indicated in Enclosure Nos. 2 and 3, provided that the activities are beneficial to the teaching-learning process, and that the total number of class days shall not be compromised.

5. Make-up classes are recommended in lieu of class cancellations due to celebrations and holidays, as well as natural and man-made calamities. Mechanism for the conduct of make-up classes must be agreed upon by school heads and the Parent-Teacher Associations. In this regard, the ROs may issue a regional school calendar to announce and reflect their concerned events. 

Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.

The School Calendar for School Year (SY) 2016-2017 shows the school events and activities for the said SY. The core events and activities for this SY, which represent the actual teaching-learning days, shall be strictly observed in all schools.

The SY 2016-2017 shall begin on Monday, June 13, 2016 and shall end on Friday, April 7, 2017. The SY will consist of 202 school days, inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training (INSET) break. The different school events and other activities for learners, including the regular and special non-working holidays, are contained in Enclosure No. 1.

Private schools may deviate from this School Calendar. However, they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August, as provided for in Republic Act No. 7797 entitled An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days. They should notify their respective regional offices (ROs) in advance regarding any deviation.

Specific guidelines are found in Enclosure 2 to enable the schools to effectively and efficiently conduct school events and activities, and to allow the ROs and schools division offices (SDOs) to provide support to the schools, especially in the areas of instruction, and progress monitoring and evaluation.

Activities and observances mandated by law can be found in Enclosure 3 while events and activities which pertain to DepEd personnel are listed in Enclosure 4. Schools may observe national and local celebrations/activities and holidays other than those indicated in Enclosure 3, provided that the total number of school days shall not be compromised.

Make-up classes can therefore be conducted to compensate for the school days spent for activities deemed beneficial to the teaching-learning process. Likewise, make-up classes are recommended in lieu of class cancellations due to occurrence of natural and man-made calamities. A mechanism for having make-up classes must be agreed upon by the school administrators and parents. In this regard, the RO may issue a regional school calendar to reflect their respective concerns.

Year-End Bonus. Newly Appointed? Are you entitled to receive? Here's the answer...

* Who are entitled to receive?

  - As stated in page 2, Civilian government personnel occupying regular, contractual, casual positions; appointive or elective; rendering services on full-time or part-time basis shall be granted Mid-Year Bonus.

* How much is the Mid-Year Bonus?

  - One-half of the Year-End Bonus (Half-Salary) + Cash Gift of 2,500 

* When should we receive it? 

  - Mid-Year Bonus shall be granted during vacation but not earlier than May 1.

* I am a newly appointed personnel, am I eligible to receive?

  - Personnel with a total or an aggregate of 4 months of service shall be granted a proportionate share of the remaining half. It differs depending on the length of service, please see page 4, item number 6.5.
